Personal Project :: Baby Photos

For those of you that didn't know, earlier this year Pinkpolka had a new addition to the family! We welcomed a little baby girl named Tory Ryan. She is still a bit young to put to work, but I'm sure eventually we'll have this little one tying ribbons and applying rhinestones! It's a little overdue, but I finally got my act together and compiled some newborn and 6-month photos taken by Carla Marie Photography. I thought I would share a photo of the cute package I came up. I designed a mini folder held together with turquoise twine which holds five photos. Each photo has an unique background pattern and an age icon. Personal projects are the easiest to procrastinate, but so meaningful when completed!

Meet Angela our New Intern!

For the next couple of months we have a new face around the studio. I'm happy to introduce Angela, our new intern! Angela is a recent graduate of the Grant MacEwan Design - Illustration program. She is a perfect fit for us as she is building her creative and professional experience while looking for her first post-graduation job. She has shared a bit about herself so we could get to know her and you can also check out her personal website.

Name: Angela Wun
Hometown: This is a toughy. I'd say Hong Kong because I was born there, but Edmonton is where I'm raised.
Reason I became a designer: I wanted to turn my hobby, drawing, into a career. On the way towards that goal, I discovered that I love print design, too!
Favourite thing about weddings: The slideshow at the reception–adorable baby pictures and embarrassing haircuts/outfits? Yes, please!
One thing I can't live without: Emoticons. :) :( :'( >_< :D :S :P :-/ Oh my gosh, make me stop. I actually consciously tell myself to reel it in when I type e-mails to clients or potential employers. It is nearly instinctive to inform people of my digital feelings.
Current obsession: The Edmonton Public Library. Did you know you can access free and legal music downloads from the public library?! And they carry video games, too! Video game design is relevant to my illustration background, so I borrow them for research purposes. ;)

Super Cute Teal & Gray Tablescape by A Modern Proposal

I was super excited to work on the stationery for this tablescape designed by Julianne of A Modern Proposal and captured by Elizabeth Vanderbij Photography. By nature, I have always loved created stationery that is cute, colorful and full of flowers or patterns and this concept was exactly that! The color palette is ultra modern and the use of various patterns makes this combination so fun! I love the detail Julianne included such as the patterns on the sugar cookies and even custom drink flags (that I designed!). And how about that amazing cake design by Amanda of Bluebird Cakes...so adorable! Enjoy the collection of photos from this super cute shoot!

Best of WedLuxe 2011 Award

We are honoured to have received the Best of WedLuxe 2011 Award for Excellence in Stationery! It means a great deal to be recognized along side many other exceptional wedding vendors. To see the full list of winners please visit http://www.wedluxe.com/index.cfm?pagePath=2011_Awards_Vancouver&id=38170.

About the Awards
The annual “Best of WedLuxe” awards were created to recognize the individual talent and contributions of Canadian event professionals whose work was featured in a published real-life WedLuxe wedding in 2011.

We receive hundreds of real-life wedding submissions each issue and of those, only 7-10 of the very best are chosen for publishing. Therefore, we truly believe the selected stories are the best-of-the-best. These weddings are a sum of all of their parts and as such, the awards are a celebration of all of the creative professionals whose work was featured in each story.
